Essex Pension Fund Response to Proposed Reforms to Local Government Exit Pay

Essex Pension Fund's response to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) consultation on reforming local government exit pay.

The Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) has opened a consultation in to proposed reforms to local government exit pay.

Reforms are required in order to implement the Restriction of Public Sector Exit Payments Regulations 2020, and to resolve conflicts with other legislation including the Local Government Pension Scheme Regulations 2013.

The Government has announced that due to unintended consequences caused by the Restriction of Public Sector Exit Payments Regulations 2020, they have moved to disapply the legislation which will be revoked later this month.

The Government remains committed to reforming exit pay in the public sector, and further reforms are expected to be introduced at a later date.
