The Essex Pension Fund was  named as the Public Sector Scheme of the Year at a prestigious awards event last night (Tuesday).

The fund saw off the challenge of six other schemes, including Environment Agency Pension Fund, Greater Manchester Pension Fund, and London Pension Fund Authority, to win the honour in the Professional Pensions Pension Scheme of the Year Awards 2014. The winners were announced at a special event at the House of Commons.

Essex Pension Fund, which is administered by Essex County Council, has over 120,000 scheme members. It is one of 89 Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) funds in England and Wales.

This is the second major national award the Fund has won in the last six months. In December it also received the LGC Investment Award for Fund of the Year 2013 (schemes above £2bn)

Chairman of the Essex Pension Fund, Cllr Rodney L Bass, said: "The Essex Pension Fund is committed to ensuring it provides an excellent service for all of its members.  I am delighted that these efforts have rightly been recognised in these prestigious awards.

"I would like to congratulate the team for their hard work and dedication. The award helps further cement what members of the fund already know which is that it is a well-run and excellent scheme."

The Fund will officially receive its trophy at an awards ceremony on July 3.
